Black walnut Italian wedding chairs

ITALIAN BLACK WALNUT WEDDING CHAIRS

I took my two sad little chairs to Carol and to be honest, i didn't hold up much hope as they were quite old and of rather fine build.  The chairs then underwent a complete forensic investigation; where we discovered they had been made by completely by hand and gave a providence of c.1870 post-Italian revolution. The carving on the backs appearing to be wings coming together. The wood itself, to everyone's surprise was a very exotic black walnut.

The main supports for the back where then cleverly doweled and glued, leaving just a slight seam where the wood had given way. The seat themselves where raised slightly with authentic horse hair pads. I would never have thought I would then receive two of the most exquisite chairs. Just gorgeous!    Andrew (March 2016)

THE ARTICHOKE CHAIR - WILLIAM MORRIS by Sanderson on Edwardian Recliner

I am thrilled with the new life that Carol has breathed into both my Ercol sofa and  the 'Artichoke' armchair. Carol was so incredibly helpful with fabric samples and with ideas - from start to finish it was a pleasure to work with her.  Sasha ( Dec 2015)

KELIM ARMCHAIR MAKEOVER

I bought an old Victorian arm chair 2 years ago which sat in my cellar until I found the wonderful London Chair Collective who put me in touch with Carol.

Carol took this bedraggled, unloved ancient chair and restored it to this beautiful, comfortable and colourful piece of furniture that resides in pride of place in our sitting room. She also could tell from the original upholstering that it probably came from Eastern Europe late 19th century. How great is that!    Shaun ( Jan 2016)

Dear Carol

Thank you so much for the fantastic upholstery work that you did on our armchair, it’s transformed the chair (and footstool) and we love it.  Thank you also for your patience and ideas about fabric and colours, much appreciated.
Good price, speedy work, brilliant service, thanks for picking up and dropping off the chair too.
All in all a great job! Have already recommended you to friends and family. Best wishes for all your future endeavours, Helen Baxter (Feb 2016)

CONSULAT CHAIRS
UPHOLSTERY COMMISSION BY CAROL MANDEVILLE

I adore the Consulat chair!
It looks amazing!

As for the repair to the other one, I don't know if it
would be possible to turn a new leg.
I feel we should try this rather than removing antique wood.

I am absolutely thrilled with your work to date.
It's top class.

Best,
James

Hi dear Carol

Before I forget (as is frequently such these days), I wanted to tell you that I was able to follow up on your kind recommendation of Rachael  (a while ago now) to restore and cane a beloved old rocking chair of my mother’s.  A long project to realise but I picked it up from her the other day.  What a lovely lady she is, and what a beautiful and loving job she did; it’s a work of art really, and has given new life to an old family member. And I have you to thank for putting me in touch with her!

Thank you, dear Carol

Hi Carol,

Thank you again for our chair - it looks fantastic! I would really like to make some cushions to match and was wondering if you could drop off (or we could pick up) the left over tweed fabric - hopefully there should be quite a bit left!

Thanks,

Marina

Miniature chair - ordinary size Max

Dear Pia,
I can't tell you how long it has taken to get a camera in the room and max-in-the-chair simultanously. Every time we just put him there he jumped straight off of course, so we had to wait for the moment.

None of these is perfect of the chair because flash makes the wood look more gingery than it is. But he shows the scale nicely, especially in the last one.
I will eventually get a scan of Henry Raspison who made the chair. But my sister keeps the family album, and she has everything packed up at the moment while she has a loft conversion done, so don't hold your breath.

Do send me a link to the story on the website when it is up.

Thank you so much for doing the chairs before christmas. We love them! I attach some pictures for your website. Happy to take others, if helpful.

Dear Carol,

Just to say thanks so much for dropping the chair back yesterday. It looks fabulous and is really comfortable. I look forward to finding the right position for it. Our sitting room has been cluttered with contents of my studio while roof was fixed so they will be gone soon and the chair will have the space it deserves to stand out!

And good luck with the other chair - it is something of a challenge I know.

Best wishes,

Mia
